Cardiologist Steven Krueger at the BryanLGH Heart Institute discusses the relationship between sleep apnea and heart disease. About half of patients diagnosed with sleep apnea will develop high blood pressure, raising their risk of heart failure and stroke. Kruger says its important to catch and treat sleep apnea early, before it affects the heart.

KEY TERMS:
Sleep Study: this is an overnight study that is used to measure how many Sleep Apnea episodes you are having (among other things). Essentially, it lets us know how severe your Sleep Apnea is.
Titration:this simply means that adjust your appliance by moving it slightly forward or backward to maximize your results
Pulse Oxymeter: a small device that measures the oxygen saturation within you body. We use these to measure a patient’s progress with their oral appliance.
